WE ARE NO LONGER OFFERING ATHEARN PRODUCTS
It seems that A/HH been treating dealers and ultimately,
you, the model railroad hobbyist unfairly even though you may not
know it directly. We have discussed these issues over the last 2
years in emails about the status of the hobby so we will not rehash
old situations and opinions here. Today's situation just seals my
personal opinion of how A/HH wants to push the local hobby shop out
of business thus limiting your availability for local customer
service and product support.

explanation of LLC. precisely why our rep agency became an LLC in 2007.
Frank, Just read your email regarding how HH/Athearn is reacting to your smart decision to go to an LLC. All I can say is " poor, poor, poor" on their part. I cut and pasted your update email to modelrailroadforums.com under the thread title "Horizon Hobby/Athearn is Squeezing the Life Out of Brick & Mortar." Hopefully it will generate some awareness and meaningful discussion about how Athearn is treating brick & mortar. I'd copy you the link to thè thread but my iPad is not cooperating. Warm regards, Brad
As the owner of JWD Premium Products and someone who was denied a dealership agreement with Horizon I can sympathize with your situation and applaud your decision. We are a manufacturer, importer and web retailer but no longer a brick and mortar business. Every year at the Amherst show in Springfield (Massachusetts) we would set up next to Horizon and every year I asked their representatives about being able to buy from them but was continuously refused. Their excuse was that they chose support the brick and mortar stores rather than e-tailors like ourselves - they are after all the "future of the hobby". What did I discover a few months ago - Horizon has almost 40,000 items listed on eBay, 6,000 of them model railroad related. "Future of the hobby" indeed! It's clear to me that all of the major manufacturers are preparing for the day when they can cut loose the individual hobby stores and sell direct to consumers themselves. Just like ExactRail has done, they're aiming to keep all of the profits in their own coffers at the expense of the small stores. Congratulations again on your strong and noble stand and good luck to you in the future! Wayne Dieffenbacher / JWD Premium Product
From ModelRailroadForums.com Y3a writes: Ever since Athearn gave up on inexpensive blue box kits I have NO USE for ANY of their products. I have had to deal with Horizon Hobbyabout RC Helicopter transmitter problems where they did NOT honor the warranty, even though THEY KNEW their was a problem with it. Horizon can suck eggs!
From ModelRailroadForums.com DairyStateDad writes: Given the fact that HH now sells rival companies' products (Bachmann, and I think, Kato, and maybe some others) from their website, it really is looking like they're trying to cut the local HS out of the loop. Because I don't model diesel era stuff I haven't had much occasion to buy Athearn. But I always had a fondness for the old Roundhouse/MDC line, and I was glad to see some years back that Athearn/HH seemed to have rescued Roundhouse. Perhaps that wasn't as wonderful as it seemed.....
